English Standard: 📚🎓

English Standard is a comprehensive course that aims to develop students’ literacy skills, critical thinking, and an appreciation for various modes of communication. The course covers a diverse range of texts, including multimodal or digital texts, print literature, and related texts.

Year 11:

  • Common Module – Reading to Write: Transition to Senior English (40 hours):
    • Explore the transition to senior English, focusing on the dynamic relationship between reading and writing.
  • Module A: Contemporary Possibilities (40 hours):
    • Engage with contemporary possibilities in literature, including the study of complex multimodal or digital texts, which may include film.
  • Module B: Close Study of Literature (40 hours):
    • Undertake a close study of literature, selecting one substantial literary print text from categories such as prose fiction, drama, or poetry.


Text Requirements for Year 11:

  • Study ONE complex multimodal or digital text in Module A.
  • Study ONE substantial literary print text in Module B.
  • Explore a range of text types, including prose fiction, drama, poetry, nonfiction, film, media, and digital texts.


Year 12:

  • Common Module – Texts and Human Experiences (30 hours):
    • Explore texts that delve into various aspects of the human experience, fostering empathy and understanding.
  • Module A: Language, Identity and Culture (30 hours):
    • Investigate the intersections of language, identity, and culture in a variety of texts.
  • Module B: Close Study of Literature (30 hours):
    • Undertake a close study of literature, focusing on three types of prescribed texts: prose fiction, poetry OR drama, and film OR media OR nonfiction.
  • Module C: The Craft of Writing (30 hours):
    • Develop advanced writing skills, focusing on the craft of writing across different genres and styles.


Text Requirements for Year 12:

  • Closely study three types of prescribed texts: prose fiction, poetry OR drama, and film OR media OR nonfiction.
  • Study ONE related text in the Common Module: Texts and Human Experiences.
